Student Life at Strathclyde

by Ryan Good

For me, it has been a great move to the university and I am thoroughly enjoying my time here. I have found that to meet new people you need to be actively involved in university activities such as clubs or sports. Also taking the opportunity to say hello and start conversations with new people has also worked. The people here are all very kind and welcoming even though some may be hard to understand with the broad Scottish accent.

The study areas are great here at Strathclyde where I find I spend most of my time either in the library or student hub for a coffee and to get amongst the cool atmosphere. We may have even grabbed a beer or two after midday lectures.

In terms of extracurricular activities, I have joined the university running, swimming, water polo and triathlon clubs which has allowed me to meet a whole bunch of new people. The gym here is a great facility and is a place I spend a lot of time.

In terms of student discounts, we get free bus travel throughout the whole of Scotland which is super handy as we use this every day to get to and from uni. Public transport is a lot better here and more widely used than in New Zealand. Getting around the campus was challenging at the start but now it is getting easier the more we go to classes and find our way around.
