Coping with Covid on Exchange

By Katie Graham

One of the worst things that could happen, happened. I got struck down with COVID-19 on exchange. Which isn’t the worst thing but it was pretty bad. I still don’t know where it came from, but it’s here. I thought it was a really bad cold at first but then my sinuses felt like I’d gotten into a fight with a baseball bat. The first few days were really rough but some nice friends got me food and snacks which lightened the mood a bit, it’s wonderful how a bit of chocolate can make things a bit less depressing.

Unfortunately, the first days I tested positive I didn’t have much food, so I had to ration until my roommate came back and could grab me something. I created the worst possible food combos to keep me from getting bored and hungry; one of these was a thick slice of bread, milk, sugar, and microwave. I call it soggy bread from hell. this Canadian covid hit me hard but fortunately, my professors were understanding (well, some of them). Luckily the mid-semester break was a few days after my Covid, but unfortunately, I had to get better and not travel during my break.

My roommate was a godsend and gave me cough syrup and some cold and flu tablets. Miraculously, I didn’t give anyone else covid. When I was finally better and negative I took my first few steps outside and it was magical, it felt like I’d just gotten out of prison.

Anyway 0/10 do not recommend getting covid on exchange.

Cowabunga dudes.
