A day in the life of an exchange student at UOttawa

by Katie Graham

Gonna be real here. I don’t have that many scheduled classes compared to Waikato so my day is pretty free.

7.30 AM wake up and a trip to the dining hall. Today I had cereal and fruit and a strawberry smoothie. The best thing about breakfasts in the dining hall is the smoothies they put out every morning. Sure, you get some weird ones but 8/10 times it’s really good.

8.30 AM Geography lecture. 8.30 AM classes are not my fave but at least when you get out, it’s still morning so u feel like u can do more stuff

10:00 AM finished class and decided what to do. Today I decided to meet up with some friends and go to a new cafe and study. I ordered a really good matcha late. The cafe was the Art House cafe, which is filled with artwork and trinkets, definitely a vibe.

2.30 PM Geochemistry lecture. This lecture was alright. We went over stable isotopes and the different types of isotopic fractionization, hydrologic system, palaeoclimatology and the different notations. To be honest, I’m really stressed about a case study we have to do, it’s got a very loose rubric but harsh grading.

4.00 PM Finish class and go study in the social sciences building. This building is super cool, it has a plant wall (currently under maintenance though 😦  ) and it’s got multiple open levels with a lot of windows. After class, there was a poutine event with food trucks selling poutine so you know I had to get some (gotta live the Canadian experience) it was super good (poutine is hot chips with hot gravy and melted cheese on top).

5.30 PM I needed to go to Rideau Mall to grab some things so I did a shopping trip to the mall. The mall is pretty big and has multiple levels so I got lost. I gave the grocery store farmboy a visit and grabbed some strawberries that were the biggest I’ve ever seen, a massive pomegranate, apple cider (I’m addicted to this stuff and will have to wean myself off it before I come back), and a grenadine.

7.00 PM Dinner time. To the dining hall and today, I got pierogis and I’m super happy. Pierogis are super good and I highly recommend them.

7.30 PM Study in my room. I needed to finish off a term project for my biology class which is about disruption to the uOttawa grasslands and their solutions.

9.00 PM Go back to the dining hall grab some ice cream and watch some Netflix.

10.00 PM sleepytime 🙂
