Preparing for the future

By Tommy Scrivener

I’m currently in my second year studying a Bachelor of Business with a double major in Finance and Accounting. I decided to go on exchange to the University of Newcastle for both professional and personal reasons. Professionally, I plan to work in Australia after completing my degree, so spending a semester at UoN will hopefully give me the opportunity to build connections with people in the industry. Personally, I’m looking forward to having the full “university experience” that goes along with staying in the halls. I am hoping to gain greater independence, confidence, and resilience skills as well.

I chose the University of Newcastle because it offers a strong business program, and the location is ideal. Newcastle is a vibrant and relatively affordable city with great weather and beautiful beaches. It also offers a good balance between study and lifestyle. I believe the cultural similarities between New Zealand and Australia will make the transition smoother. Despite being a push beyond my comfort zone, I’m excited to meet new people, explore a new city, and make the most of this exchange experience.
