From Waikato to Canada for Study and Snow

By Nathan Bailey

Kia ora! I’m currently in my third year of studying Civil Engineering at the University of Waikato. From September to December, I’ll be heading to Canada to study at the University of Ottawa as part of the student exchange programme. I chose to go on exchange because I’m keen to broaden my perspective, experience a different academic environment, and explore how civil engineering is approached overseas. I believe opportunities like this are a great way to grow personally and professionally, and I’m excited to step outside my comfort zone.

I chose the University of Ottawa because of its strong engineering faculty, its location in the heart of Canada’s capital, and the chance to experience a completely different climate and culture. I’m especially looking forward to connecting with students from all over the world, developing new skills, and bringing back fresh insights that I can apply to my final year of study in New Zealand. I’m also really excited to explore Canada and maybe even try a few classic winter activities while I’m there!
