Embracing Island Life and Learning Abroad

By Natalie Burke

Hello, my name is Natalie and I am in my third year and final year of University studying a Bachelor of Social Science, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Human Development.

I am heading to the University of Hawai’i at Manoa!

Studying abroad has always been something I wanted to do – not only for the adventure, but also for the opportunity to experience a different academic environment, meet new people, and immerse myself in a unique cultural setting.

I’m super excited to explore everything Hawai‘i has to offer—especially the hiking and swimming. I’ve already made a list of trails I want to check out (Diamond Head is at the top), and I’m definitely planning to spend as much time as possible in the water. Whether it’s surfing, snorkelling, or just relaxing on the beach, I’m all in.

I’m also looking forward to experiencing American college life—especially the sports! I’ve never been to a college football or basketball game, so I can’t wait to see all the American spirit.

Of course, preparing for a semester abroad comes with its share of nerves—figuring out housing, registering for classes, and adjusting to a new place—but overall, the excitement outweighs everything else.

Mahalo!
