Year 4 of Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Software

I chose to go on an exchange because I have always wanted to study abroad. I have known my whole life that I wanted to go to school in America, and I figured that now would be the last chance I get, as I am nearing the end of my degree. I chose the University of California and Arizona State University in particular because they both have very good computer science programs. It is important to me to go somewhere that has great research facilities and a good reputation for software. Additionally, both of these states are near Silicon Valley, the tech capital, which would be great for me to make connections with the tech giants. I unfortunately didn’t get into the University of California, so I will be going to Arizona State University. This was upsetting at first, however, it presents its own unique adventure, with a very different lifestyle to New Zealand, which is the reason I want to go on the exchange.

I am hoping to have an amazing, lifelong experience where I meet new people, improve my knowledge and skillset and most importantly, embrace a new culture. Moving to a new area is intimidating and forces you to open yourself up and get out of your comfort zone. I am looking forward to this the most, as I feel like I need to be challenged. I have previously gone on trips overseas, and this seems like a great next step.
