Sports (and coffee) in Canada

Coffee

The two most popular places to get coffee at the University of Calgary – and Canada in general – are Starbucks and Tim Hortons. There aren’t as many local coffee shops as we have in New Zealand!

Sports

In winter in Canada, the big thing is ice hockey. It’s so fun to go to the university Dino’s games or the Calgary flames games. The crowd gets super into it! There is also some basketball, and American football is popular over the summer. In terms of participating, everyone here goes to the gym (’cause it’s too cold for anything outside) then on weekends people love to go skiing/snowboarding, and some uni clubs run trips. There’s also a lot of skating, loads of places do free skating if you have your own skates or can hire them fairly cheaply.
