About the programme
The World Heritage & Scientific Exploration Youth Summer Camp is a fully funded 10-day experience in Chengdu, China, for 2 students. Over 10 exciting days, students will dive into cutting-edge science, ecological conservation, and China’s incredible World Cultural Heritage through hands-on field visits and expert lectures — all while building lasting friendships with peers from sister cities around the globe. Hosted by the Chengdu Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and organised by Chengdu University of Technology, this fully funded program offers a multi-dimensional cultural and academic exchange that will broaden worldviews and ignite passions for cross-cultural collaboration.
Introducing Lauren

Kia ora, my name is Lauren, and I’m currently in my third year studying Earth and Environmental Sciences at UoW. I love travelling, being outdoors, and trying new things, so the Chengdu summer programme seemed like a really great opportunity to do something different while also connecting with what I study.
I have never visited China before, and I’m really looking forward to experiencing somewhere so different from New Zealand. China’s history, busy cities, and culture will all be completely new to me, and I think spending time in Chengdu will be an eye-opening experience. I was also really interested in the programme’s focus on conservation. Since this connects closely with my degree, I’m looking forward to seeing how it is approached in China and comparing it with what I have learnt here in NZ.
I hope to learn more about Chinese culture, technology, and practices while making the most of every experience the programme offers. I’m also looking forward to meeting new people, making friends and eating some great food.
Introducing Leala
Hello! My name is Leala, I am currently studying a Bachelor of Business majoring in Economics, minoring in Accounting, with some electives in Chinese. Aside from university, I enjoy playing the piano, acrylic painting, and practicing my Mandarin reading and comprehension. I wanted to join this programme because I value learning which extends beyond lectures and assignments within my degree. This offer is an amazing opportunity to learn about the importance of environmental conservation, world heritage, whilst putting language learning skills to the test.
As a business student, I understand that economics is closely connected to incentives, resource scarcity, and decision-making. I hope this programme will help me better understand how environmental conservation could contribute to a sustainable economy in the future. I hope to return from the programme with stronger cross-cultural communication skills and a broader world view which will influence my decision making and the way I think as a student, a future graduate, and member of a global community.
