A new experience in Singapore for Bridget.

By: Bridget Culllen

Hello!

I’m Bridget, a third-year accounting student here at Waikato University!
I have always wanted to travel and have not yet had the opportunity to experience a new country before. Therefore, I thought there would be no better opportunity to scratch the travel itch than to head overseas for my final semester of study. I am very excited to jump right into travel by spending three whole months studying in another country.

It was very difficult to choose between all of the incredible options, Montana, Cardiff and Tasmania were all contenders. However, as soon as I saw the Hive at Nanyang Technological University, I knew that was the destination for me.

Singapore, although small, has so much to offer! As a first-time traveller, safety and ease were a priority. As an English-speaking country, with its world-leading innovation and strict rules, Singapore is known as the perfect “soft-landing” to Asia all while still having an incredible culture and history all of its own. Therefore, I expect a lot of culture shocks but at the same time some similarities.

I am most exited to try as many hawker centre food stalls as I can, and plan on biking around the city to the Gardens by the Bay, visiting the Zoo, Botanical gardens, see a monkey and Sentosa Island!
The university itself is one of the highest ranked universities in Asia and is also highly ranked globally, therefore I hope to learn a lot while I am there as well.

Along with Singapore, I will be in close proximity to Malaysia and Indonesia as well as Hongkong, which I am really excited to hike around while I am travelling.

I am really looking forward to this experience!
