Seeking New Experiences in Stirling

By Mahina Warren

Kia Ora! My name is Mahina, and I am a second year studying Sport and Human Performance and majoring in human performance science.

I chose to go on exchange to experience everyday life and university culture in a country entirely different to what I’m used to, as well as the chance to meet and form connections with people from all around the world. I also see it as an opportunity to push myself, become more self- reliant, and venture beyond my comfort zone.

I chose the University of Stirling, Scotland because it offers the best resources for my degree (Sport Science), even being named the UK Sports University of the year and Scottish university of the year. Stirling is known as the safest university town in Scotland, and is situated right in between the two main cities, Edinburgh and Glasgow, both of which are less than an hour away. It is also known as the “gateway to the highlands”, making it the perfect location to experience the best of both worlds; beautiful nature and scenery while still being close to vibrant and exciting cities.

On my exchange, I hope to grow a greater sense of independence and confidence in myself by being exposed to unfamiliar settings and situations. Being able to experience a new and different culture will foster within me a “comfortable with being uncomfortable” mindset that is I believe is essential for me to adapt and grow. I also hope to make friends with students from all around the world and create memories that will last a lifetime! Most importantly, I hope to fully experience and explore Scotland’s striking landscapes, with its vast highlands, lochs, ancient cities and unique history.
